Court Orders INEC to Register Citizen Democratic Alliance

On June 23, Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the new political party known as the Citizen Democratic Alliance (CDA). This ruling came after INEC had previously blocked the party's registration in December 2025, citing that the political association did not meet the necessary requirements.

The court found that the CDA had fulfilled all legal obligations, including passing a security background check and submitting the required paperwork. Justice Egwuatu emphasized that INEC must issue the registration certificate for the CDA without delay, as the party aims to participate in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The CDA describes itself as a progressive movement focused on democratic reforms and economic revitalization in Nigeria. Currently, there are 22 registered political parties in Nigeria, and the CDA has already submitted its membership list to INEC in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
