Mourinho Returns to Real Madrid as New Head Coach

Jose Mourinho has signed a three-year contract to become the new head coach of Real Madrid, marking his return to the Santiago Bernabeu after a decade since his first spell from 2010 to 2013. The announcement was made on a Friday, with the official unveiling set for June 7, following the club's presidential elections.

Mourinho, 63, is leaving Benfica to take charge of Real Madrid after guiding the Portuguese side to a third-place finish in the Primeira Liga. During his previous tenure at Real Madrid, he won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

He replaces Alvaro Arbeloa, who was appointed in January after Xabi Alonso's departure. Real Madrid is looking to restore its fortunes after a disappointing 2025-26 season, where they finished without silverware and lost to Barcelona in La Liga and Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
