Nigerian Government Tackles AI-Driven Misinformation

The Nigerian government has commenced efforts to address AI-driven misinformation, as announced by the Minister of Information during a meeting in Abuja. The initiative aims to strengthen media literacy and counteract digital manipulation, particularly concerning deepfake technology.

Idris, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), emphasized the importance of clear communication to ensure that reforms are understood and accepted by the public. The government is focused on preventing resistance to reforms designed for the greater good.

Additionally, the Ministry of Information is collaborating with various agencies, including the NTA, FRCN, VON, and NAN, to amplify reform efforts. The overarching goal is to enhance transparency across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), improve public financial management, block leakages, and reduce irregularities such as ghost workers while ensuring payroll integrity at federal, state, and local levels.
