Protesters Demand Justice at Osun High Court Over Funds

On Wednesday, protesters stormed the Osun State High Court in Osogbo, demanding respect for court orders amid a dispute over local government funds. The protest was triggered by a legal battle involving a magistrate court's order for the arrest of executives from the United Bank for Africa (UBA) and a suit filed by the Osun State government.

The high court had previously granted an ex parte order to quash criminal proceedings against the bank, yet the magistrate court reportedly continued its proceedings. Protesters, led by Hon.

Maaroof Ogundipe, expressed concerns that ongoing actions against UBA officials, despite the high court's ruling, could lead to a constitutional crisis. The National Judicial Council described the situation as a serious threat to judicial integrity, warning against the disregard of court judgments.

The protest highlighted tensions surrounding local government chairmen reinstated by the Progressive Congress, with calls for urgent resolution to prevent public disorder.
