Supreme Court Confirms Death Sentence for Delta Kidnapper

On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence by hanging for Chelynor Halim, who was convicted in connection with the high-profile kidnapping of Joan Osemen in February 2014. The five-member panel unanimously dismissed Halim's appeal, affirming the lower court's judgment, which found the evidence against him overwhelming and sufficient to sustain his conviction.

The court's ruling detailed that Osemen was abducted by Halim's gang in Ibusa, Delta State, and subjected to assault and threats with a firearm during her ordeal. After being held in an undisclosed location, she managed to escape and alert the public, leading to the arrest of gang members.

The Supreme Court's decision comes at a time when concerns about kidnapping and violent crime are high across Nigeria, as security agencies continue efforts to tackle criminal networks responsible for such abductions.
