Tinubu Meets NLC, Governors to Address Labor Issues

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu convened a meeting with governors and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the State House Banquet Hall in Aso Rock, Abuja. This meeting aimed to strengthen dialogue between the federal and state governments and the labor organization amid economic strains and political calculations leading up to the 2027 general elections.

The NLC, led by its president, prepared to submit a charter of demands, which includes calls for improved wages, job protection, and stronger safeguards for workers affected by economic reforms and climate-related transitions. The NLC also seeks to establish a just transition fund to support communities impacted by policy changes and demands large-scale green job creation and enhanced social protection schemes.

The meeting's outcome is expected to influence political relationships as the NLC represents a significant membership base across essential economic sectors, positioning it as a major force in shaping public opinion during challenging economic times.
