Tinubu Nominates Lamido Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Lamido Yuguda as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, with the nomination subject to Senate confirmation. This announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President's Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The appointment is in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007. Yuguda's nomination follows the recent appointment of former CBN Deputy Governor Bala Bello as a special adviser to the President on political economy.

The statement emphasized the importance of Yuguda's professional commitment to Nigeria's economic stability and growth. Lamido Yuguda served as the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2020 to 2024.

He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 1983, and later obtained a Master's degree in Money Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 1991. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Yuguda began his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1984 and has held various significant roles, including serving as the Director of the Reserve Management Department for six years before retiring in 2016.
