Tinubu to Review N70,000 Minimum Wage Amid Economic Challenges

The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu will review the current minimum wage of N70,000, as confirmed by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila during an event in Abuja organized by a group called Work People Unit. Gbajabiamila stated that the existing wage is no longer sustainable given the current economic situation in Nigeria.

He noted that the N70,000 wage threshold, established under Tinubu's administration, must be reassessed in light of today's realities. The Chief of Staff assured labor organizations that the administration does not view workers as adversaries but as key contributors to the nation's progress.

He emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration rather than conflict, urging trade unions to maintain a peaceful approach. Gbajabiamila concluded by appealing to union leaders to choose dialogue over industrial action, which often disrupts the economy.
