Emeka Ike Pursues Legal Action Against INEC and Olayinka

Emeka Ike is engaged in a legal battle against Olayinka and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the unauthorized publication of his voter registration transfer details from Imo State to Abuja. Ike's lawsuit, filed through his lawyer Leonard Adeh, asserts that the publication infringed upon his constitutional right to privacy and contravened the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

He is seeking a declaration that the publication violated his rights, alongside general and aggravated damages against INEC and Olayinka. Additionally, he requests an order for Olayinka to delete the post and issue a written apology.

During a court session on Wednesday, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, the court recommended that the parties consider an out-of-court settlement. INEC, represented by Anthonia Makwe, countered the suit, arguing that the published information was neither confidential nor sensitive.
