Makarfi Urges Release of El-Rufai Ahead of 2027 Elections

Hayatuddeen Lawal Makarfi, a former governorship candidate in Kaduna State, has made a plea to the federal government for the release of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. Makarfi described El-Rufai as one of Nigeria's most accomplished reformers, emphasizing that the nation cannot afford to overlook his experience and leadership as the 2027 general election approaches.

In his statement, Makarfi highlighted El-Rufai's extensive public service record, which includes significant roles at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and as governor of Kaduna State. He credited El-Rufai with pivotal contributions to Nigeria's telecommunications liberalization and the establishment of the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) and the Abuja Master Plan.

Makarfi noted that El-Rufai's administration in Kaduna State was characterized by reforms in education, public finance, infrastructure, and local government, which enhanced institutional strength and accountability. He argued that Nigeria's current challenges necessitate leaders with proven reform credentials, asserting that El-Rufai has consistently shown the political will to implement essential policies.
