Kaduna State Transforms Health Care with New Facilities

Kaduna State has undertaken a significant overhaul of its health care system, addressing long-standing deficiencies in primary health care centres. Since the administration took office in 2023, 255 primary health care centres have been revitalized and upgraded to Level 2 status.
Each of the 23 local government areas now has a Centre of Excellence, equipped with standard and tricycle ambulances to improve emergency response in rural areas. Additionally, 14 general hospitals have been renovated and re-equipped to handle cases beyond the capacity of primary health care centres.
The completion of the 320-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital marks a critical development, designed to manage complex medical conditions and serve as a major referral centre, reducing the need for patients to travel to Abuja or abroad for treatment. The government plans to recruit 1,800 health workers annually for five years to address staffing shortages and has already implemented salary scale improvements and hazard allowances for health workers.
