Kenya allocates $2 million for Ebola response efforts

The Kenya Humanitarian Fund has allocated more than $2 million to bolster Ebola preparedness and response efforts in Kenya. This fund, managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), will support government-led initiatives, including enhanced border surveillance and training for rapid response teams.
The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, announced this funding at a news conference in New York. The allocation will also aid preparedness along high-risk refugee and travel routes associated with the Kakuma refugee complex in north-western Kenya.
As of October 20, nine confirmed Ebola cases, including two fatalities, have been reported, with no evidence of community transmission. Contact tracing has identified 134 additional individuals who may have been exposed and placed them under quarantine.
Additionally, the World Health Organisation (WHO), represented by Dr. Meg Doherty, has launched a clinical trial in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to evaluate various vaccine candidates against Ebola using the ring vaccination approach.
