Kogi State Launches Campaign Against Internet Fraud

Kogi State has initiated an anti-internet fraud campaign, calling for the establishment of anti-fraud clubs in tertiary institutions across the state. This initiative is part of efforts to combat cybercrime and promote ethical values among the youth.

Governor Ahmad Usman Ododo made this call during the official flag-off of the campaign at the Government House in Lokoja, represented by Folashad Ayoad Arik. He stressed the importance of support from parents, schools, religious institutions, and community leaders to tackle internet fraud, warning that poor moral upbringing and the quest for quick wealth can damage societal values.

The campaign was convened by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Internet Fraud Matters, Oluseyi Kelvin Eleta, who noted that unregulated intelligence and talent could become dangerous. Nathaniel Diton from the ICPC delivered a lecture on the pressures leading to fraudulent behavior, urging youth to embrace ethical means of livelihood.

Kingsley Fanwo, a state commissioner, attributed some of the issues to parental acceptance of ill-gotten wealth. The state government is also developing an innovation hub to help youth channel their digital skills into legitimate ventures.
