Kwankwasiyya Groups in Kano State Ready to Join APC with Gov. Abba Amid NNPP Crisis

Kwankwasiyya groups in Kano State have announced their intention to defect from the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) and align with the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Abba, subject to certain conditions being fulfilled. This decision comes after Governor Yusuf resigned from NNPP on January 25, 2026, citing deepening internal crises and leadership disputes within the party.

The youth within the Kwankwasiyya political movement expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of inclusivity and marginalization in the governance under Governor Yusuf, leading to growing disenchantment among party members. Aminu Abdullahi, popularly known as Alhaji Warkal, spoke on behalf of the youth groups aligning with the governor, emphasizing the need for genuine youth inclusion in governance.

Meanwhile, former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, showed solidarity with the Kwankwasiyya movement amidst the ongoing political tensions in the state.

The move to join APC and the conditions set by the Kwankwasiyya groups signal a significant political realignment in Kano State.
