Kwara State Agency and UNICEF Train Health Workers on Polio

The Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), in partnership with UNICEF, conducted a one-day training for frontline health workers on September 23, 2026, at G-Pinnacle Hotel & Suites in Ilorin. The training focused on enhancing polio surveillance, interpersonal communication, and outbreak response.

KWSPHCDA's Executive Secretary, Prof Nusirat Elelu, emphasized the importance of communication skills in delivering primary healthcare. Dr Michael Oguntoye represented Elelu and facilitated sessions on polio facts and the responsibilities of health workers.

UNICEF's Dr Noma Owen encouraged participants to apply effective communication in their roles as community change agents. Prof Salaudeen Adekunle led practical exercises on community engagement techniques.

The training included assessments to evaluate knowledge before and after the sessions and involved participants from local government areas including Ilorin South, Ilorin East, Ilorin West, and Moro, with each area providing eight health personnel.
