KWASUTH Promotes Safe Medication Use During Pregnancy

The Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) warned against self-medication and unsafe drug use during pregnancy and breastfeeding during a sensitisation programme held on September 25, 2026, to mark World Pharmacists Day. The event, organized by the hospital’s Department of Pharmacy under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures,” aimed to promote the safe, effective, and rational use of medicines.

The pharmacy team educated patients, caregivers, and the public about medication safety, particularly during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Participants were encouraged to seek guidance from qualified healthcare professionals before taking medications.

The team also reviewed patients’ medication information to identify issues related to inappropriate medicine use and distributed free medications as part of the outreach. Pherman Ronke Esho, Head of the Department of Pharmacy, presented an Award of Excellent Performance to Dr Bola Ahmed Abdulkadir, Chief Medical Director of KWASUTH, for his support and commitment to quality healthcare delivery.

Abdulkadir emphasized the importance of teamwork and patient-centered care in improving health outcomes.
