Mele Kyari Denies Dodging Senate Probe Amid Arrest Warrant

Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), reacted to the Senate Committee on Public Accounts' issuance of an arrest warrant against him, expressing deep shock. The warrant was issued due to ongoing investigations into the company's financial records, including transactions related to an alleged sum of 210 trillion naira.

In a letter addressed to the committee's chairman, Kyari explained that he was unable to appear before the committee due to medical treatment abroad, referencing a prior notification sent on May 11, 2026. He stated his willingness to honor the committee's invitation upon his return to Nigeria and emphasized that he had not received any subsequent summons.

Kyari also reiterated his commitment to cooperate with the investigation and defend his tenure at NNPCL, which he claimed had been transformed into a commercially viable entity during his management.
