NLC's Chris Onyeka Criticizes Delayed Salary Adjustments

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has voiced its disappointment regarding the failure of federal and state governments to implement consequential salary adjustments. Comrade Chris Onyeka, the Assistant General Secretary of the NLC, emphasized the reluctance of both private employers and government entities to timely adjust workers' entitlements.
While some states, such as Imo, are paying N104,000, others like Ebonyi and Lagos are paying between N80,000 and N90,000. However, entitlements that should be disbursed upon staff promotions are not being paid.
The NLC pointed out that during collective bargaining, consequential salary adjustments are typically discussed between the federal government and trade unions. These adjustments are part of the agreements made between labor and employers, in addition to those under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS).
