Lagos Postpones BECE Due to Oro Festival Safety Concerns

The Lagos State Examination Board has announced the postponement of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026. This decision was made following the declaration of the Oro festival in the Ikorodu division, which raised safety concerns for candidates and examination officials.

Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, the registrar of the Lagos State Examination Board, confirmed that the examination will now take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The board will proceed with the examination according to the existing timetable while implementing precautionary measures to prevent disruptions and ensure a smooth, orderly, and credible conduct of the examination. Parents, guardians, and school authorities have been advised to obtain the revised examination timetable and prepare accordingly.

The Lagos State Examination Board has apologized for any inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent and hitch-free examination across the state.
