Lagos Residents Debunk Egg Price Slash

Residents across Lagos State have debunked claims of a price slash in eggs, despite the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) announcing a 10% reduction in farm gate prices per crate. While PAN stated the price drop, residents in areas like Egbeda and FESTAC noted that egg prices remained high, with some retailers selling eggs at N250 per piece.

Wholesalers explained that additional costs such as transportation, packaging, and data transfer contribute to the final retail price, with cracked eggs selling at N500 for three pieces. Consumers in areas like Alimosho and Amuwo Odofin reported little change in egg prices, with some selling boiled eggs at N300 per piece to cover costs and make a profit.

Despite the supposed price reduction at the farm gate, the impact on consumer prices remains minimal, indicating discrepancies in the egg supply chain.
