Lagos First Lady Dr. Sanwo-Olu Calls for Patience on Waste Issues

Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State, appealed to residents for patience concerning delays in refuse evacuation during a recent environmental sanitation exercise in Mafoluku, Oshodi-Isolo. She acknowledged complaints from residents about the inefficiencies of Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and rising waste collection charges.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu explained that operators are encountering operational challenges at dumpsites, where trucks face long queues, sometimes waiting two to three days to unload waste. She assured residents that the Lagos State Government is actively working on a new waste management strategy to address these issues.

Emphasizing the need for improved waste separation, she noted that recyclables are often mixed with general waste. While commending the community for their efforts in waste management, she admitted that Lagos has not yet achieved the desired cleanliness but recognized that awareness is improving.

The First Lady expressed optimism that the government and stakeholders are committed to ensuring a cleaner Lagos.
