Lagos to Recruit 377 'Wole-Wole' to Tackle Waste Crisis

Lagos State intends to hire 377 'wole-wole' (environment health officers) to combat waste challenges. Dr.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the MD/CEO of LAWMA, revealed the plan to reinstate an old environmental sanitation system to manage the daily generation of 13,000 tons of waste in Lagos. The recruitment will commence in January 2026, with a focus on deploying officers to wards across the state.

Gbadegesin highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, including 80,000 smart bins, to enhance waste collection and disposal efficiency.
