Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Launches Omi Eko Transport Project

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the Omi Eko project, which aims to significantly reduce travel time for residents and improve urban mobility across the state. During a courtesy visit from a delegation led by Ambroise Fayol, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the project aligns with the state administration's transport and traffic management agenda.

The Omi Eko project is designed to develop an integrated transport network combining road, rail, and water transport. It will provide modern, climate-resilient water transport infrastructure, including upgraded ferry terminals and safer navigation channels.

Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce current commute times from two hours to approximately 40-45 minutes. Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for the EIB's support and highlighted the importance of providing multiple transport options to alleviate pressure on existing infrastructure.

Fayol disclosed that Nigeria is set to become the largest country of operation for the EIB in Africa by 2025, with a total lending value of $550 million.
