Lagos Water Corporation Serves Just 1.03% of Residents

The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) states that its water network serves 34,424 registered households, which is approximately 1.03% of Lagos State's estimated 20 million residents. Mr Rasaq Anifowoshe, the Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs and Brand Management at LWC, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
He noted that with an average household size of six, the connections serve about 206,444 residents. The corporation has an installed water production capacity of around 210 million gallons per day, while the daily water demand is approximately 540 million gallons.
A review of the corporation's 2025 production records shows an average daily production of about 7.21 million gallons, which is only three percent of its capacity. Anifowoshe identified ageing distribution pipelines and increasing demand due to population growth as major constraints.
Many residents rely on costly alternative water sources, spending thousands of naira on vendor-supplied water due to irregular public supply.
