Real Madrid faced a setback in their LaLiga campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. The match, held on Sunday evening, saw Real Madrid, managed by Jose Mourinho, aiming to keep pace with LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who had secured a victory against Sevilla the previous day.

The turning point of the match occurred when Dean Huijsen was shown a straight red card, resulting in a penalty awarded to Atletico Madrid. Alejandro Grimaldo converted the penalty to give Atletico the lead.

Jonathan David extended Atletico's advantage in the 59th minute. Although Anthony Rudiger managed to score a late goal for Real Madrid, it was not enough to change the outcome.

Following this defeat, Real Madrid is now in third place in LaLiga with 15 points, trailing Atletico by one point and six points behind Barcelona after seven rounds of fixtures.
