Lamido and Nwachukwu Call for Nigeria's Diplomatic Reforms

On Tuesday in Abuja, Sule Lamido, a former governor and foreign affairs minister, and Major General Ikedi Nwachukwu, the chairman of the occasion, advocated for significant reforms in Nigeria's diplomatic architecture. They raised concerns regarding the chronic underfunding of foreign missions and the politicization of the ambassadorial appointment process.

Nwachukwu warned that the persistent funding gap weakens Nigeria's foreign missions, limiting their capacity to function optimally. He noted that several missions struggle to meet basic obligations due to inadequate funding, which undermines Nigeria's ability to engage strategically and deliver essential consular services.

Lamido emphasized the importance of national pride and cultural identity in shaping Nigeria's international engagement. He urged all Nigerians to appreciate and embrace their diverse identities.

The event also featured the presentation of Ambassador Nwobu's memoir, which highlighted structural challenges affecting Nigeria's global diplomatic effectiveness.
