FCID Clarifies: Land Ownership Disputes Are Civil Matters, Not Police Cases

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) spokesperson, Aminat Mayegun, addressed the media, stating that land ownership disputes are civil matters falling under the jurisdiction of the court, not the police. Mayegun highlighted that police intervention in land-related cases is limited to addressing criminal infractions that may arise from disputes.

She emphasized that the police lack the authority to determine land ownership and should only intervene when criminal offenses such as fraud, property damage, assault, or arson occur in the course of land disputes. Mayegun warned against fraudulent or violent actions in the pretext of asserting land rights and urged aggrieved parties to seek redress through legal channels.

The FCID assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to carry out its duties in line with the law.
