Dimeji Lawal Critiques Super Eagles After Guinea-Bissau Loss

Former Nigeria international Dimeji Lawal criticized the Super Eagles after their 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which took place on a Tuesday. The defeat left Nigeria with three points from two matches.

Guinea-Bissau took the lead with a goal from Franculino Dju in the 15th minute, followed by Mama Baldé's goal in the 66th minute, and Álvaro Djaló completed the scoring in stoppage time. Lawal expressed disappointment with the team's performance, stating they failed to impose themselves and created few chances.

He also criticized the current squad, claiming many players are overhyped and that the country tends to pursue foreign-born players without considering their suitability for African football. Lawal contrasted the current players with past stars like Austin Okocha and Daniel Amokachi, emphasizing the need for players with an African football background.

Nigeria is currently second in Group L, with their next match against Tanzania scheduled for 11 November.
