LAWMA's New Environmental Strategies Crack Down on Illegal Waste Dumping in Lagos

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched a new initiative to tackle environmental degradation caused by illegal waste dumping. Recent incidents of individuals dumping refuse off bridges have led to public outrage.

LAWMA, in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), has identified and arrested suspects, with cases being heard in the Environment Special Offences Court in Oshodi. The indiscriminate dumping of waste in Lagos poses serious health and environmental risks, necessitating the enforcement of integrated waste management systems to protect public health and enhance climate resilience.

The crackdown involves intelligence-led operations, private surveillance teams, and legal actions against offenders across various locations in Lagos.
