Farotimi Calls for INEC Chairman Amupitan's Removal

Dele Farotimi, a prominent human rights activist, has publicly urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the current Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amupitan. Farotimi insists that the president has the authority to appoint a successor, but this should not prevent Nigerians from demanding Amupitan's resignation.

He argues that simply allowing the president to choose a replacement does not address the need for accountability within the electoral body. Farotimi further stated that even if the president opts to appoint someone close to him, including family members, it should not hinder the call for Amupitan's removal.
