Leverkusen's Martinez Explains Boniface's Europa League Omission

Bayer Leverkusen manager Carles Martinez provided an explanation for the exclusion of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from the club's UEFA Europa League squad. Boniface, who had an impressive pre-season, was omitted due to a knee issue that impacted his fitness during preparations.

Martinez stated that the decision was made while Boniface was still experiencing pain and was not at full fitness. He mentioned that two months prior, Boniface was struggling physically and was "very far behind." However, Martinez indicated that Boniface's knee is now responding better, with only occasional minor issues remaining.

He expressed hope that Boniface would continue to improve and emphasized that the striker is still in the team's plans, potentially playing an important role once fully fit. Martinez remarked, “In many games, when we need a goal, Boni is on my mind,” indicating Boniface's significance to the team.
