Nigerian Filling Stations Engage in Price War Below Dangote's Set Pump Price

A price war has erupted in Nigeria's petroleum sector as several filling stations are selling petrol below Dangote's benchmark price of N739 per liter. Notable stations like NIPCO, AP Fill Station, and others are offering prices ranging from N735 to N738 per liter, undercutting Dangote's price.

This competitive pricing follows Dangote Refinery's decision to slash its pump price from N828 to N699 per liter in December 2025. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) explains that market demand largely dictates retail prices, favoring stations that offer competitive rates.

Dangote Refinery's expansion and distribution strategy aim to increase supply volumes across Nigeria, impacting market dynamics. Diesel prices at Nigerian depots are also nearing N900 per liter, with Dangote Refinery's diesel trading at higher rates.

The market remains oversupplied, leading to price adjustments and increased competition.
