LUTH Healthcare Disrupted as Resident Doctors Strike Continues

Healthcare services at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) have been severely disrupted as the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) continues its strike, now entering its eighth day. The strike, initiated under the directive of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), follows months of unsuccessful negotiations with LUTH management regarding unresolved welfare issues.

The ARD has stated that they will not resume work until two primary demands are met: the immediate completion of the Resident Doctors’ Quarters and the restoration of call duty meals. The association highlighted that resident doctors have been denied access to their accommodation for over 18 months due to an unfinished renovation project, forcing many to sleep in cars and unsuitable locations.

This situation has adversely affected their welfare and ability to provide essential healthcare services. The ARD has urged the federal government to release necessary funds to complete the renovation and restore call duty meals, which they claim is detrimental to both patient care and doctors' welfare.
