Raveloson Confident as Madagascar Prepares for Nigeria Clash

Ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying opener against Nigeria, Madagascar midfielder Rayan Raveloson stated that the Barea are not intimidated by the Super Eagles. The match is scheduled for Friday in Uyo.

Raveloson and his teammates arrived in Nigeria on Monday, while Nigeria's players began arriving on Tuesday. He acknowledged the absence of Nigeria's injured striker Victor Osimhen but expressed confidence in Madagascar's ability to compete, stating, “It’s football, and they are humans like us.” Madagascar, currently ranked 104th in FIFA rankings, is motivated by their recent success in the African Nations Championship, where they reached the final.

The Barea aim for their second AFCON appearance after debuting in 2019 and reaching the quarter-finals. They previously defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the 2019 AFCON group stage but lost both legs in the 2012 AFCON qualifiers.

Corentin Martins, appointed as head coach of Madagascar in January 2025, has AFCON qualification as a primary target. Following the match against Nigeria, Madagascar will face Tanzania at home on September 29.
