Madagascar Revokes Ousted President's Nationality Amid Political Turmoil

Madagascar's new government has revoked the nationality of ousted President Andri Rajoelina, stripping him of his Malagasy citizenship after he fled the country in the wake of protests. Rajoelina, who also holds French nationality, faced disqualification from future elections due to acquiring foreign citizenship.

The move comes after Rajoelina's impeachment and escape following military unrest. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo and cited Malagasy law on voluntary acquisition of foreign nationality resulting in loss of Malagasy citizenship.

Rajoelina's actions have triggered a political scandal and raised concerns about his eligibility to contest future polls.
