Mastantuono Breaks Messi's Record with Serie A Hat-Trick

Franco Mastantuono, a 19-year-old winger currently on loan from Real Madrid to Fiorentina, made history by becoming the youngest Argentine player to score a hat-trick in one of Europe’s top five leagues. On Sunday, he scored three goals in Fiorentina's 4-2 victory over Venezia in Serie A, marking the team's first points of the season.

Mastantuono was 19 years and 28 days old at the time, 231 days younger than Lionel Messi when he scored his first hat-trick in a major league. Two of Mastantuono's goals came within 108 seconds as Fiorentina overcame a one-goal deficit.

This performance could be pivotal for Mastantuono, who had a challenging start to his loan spell after moving from Real Madrid, where he was signed for €45 million from River Plate in 2025. His previous struggles contributed to him missing Argentina's World Cup squad, but this hat-trick may enhance his chances for national team selection.

Mastantuono has expressed admiration for Messi, wearing the number 30 shirt at Real Madrid, the same number Messi wore at Barcelona.
