Oyo Governor ‘Seyi Makinde Extends Wage Award and Subsidy

Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has approved the renewal of the wage award for civil servants for an additional three months and the continuation of the transport subsidy. This decision aims to mitigate the impact of the recent increase in pump prices and the economic challenges faced by residents.

Makinde made this announcement on Friday during his return to office after his annual leave, in the presence of Acting Governor Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, government officials, labor leaders, and civil servants. He noted that the state's wage bill has escalated from N4.5 billion in 2019 to N18 billion monthly, with the minimum wage increasing from N18,000 to N80,000.

Makinde also called for a meeting with labor leaders to address ongoing economic issues and urged President Bola Tinubu to adhere to constitutional provisions regarding leadership during leaves. He expressed gratitude to civil servants for their cooperation during his absence and highlighted the importance of upcoming elections in determining the future governance of Oyo State.
