Falana Criticizes Lagos State Government for Violating Court Orders in Makoko Demolitions

Human rights lawyer Falana has condemned the Lagos State Government for defying court orders by carrying out illegal demolitions of waterfront properties in Makoko, Lagos. Falana highlighted that the demolitions violate existing court orders that restrain the government from forcibly evicting residents and demolishing structures in waterfront communities.

The Lagos State High Court, presided over by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo, had previously ruled against the government's actions, emphasizing the gross violation of human rights and awarding damages to affected residents. Falana urged the government to halt further demolitions, engage in meaningful consultations with affected communities, and comply with the court's directives to prevent the displacement of vulnerable residents.
