Audu was reported missing on March 8, 2025, with claims of being abducted due to political reasons, but later arrested by police in Abuja on October 31, 2025, for allegedly staging the incident. However, his lawyer maintains that Audu's arrest is not connected to any self-kidnapping offenses.
