Violence Erupts at Paraguay Football Match, Many Injured

A violent incident erupted at the Defensor del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion during a football match between Olimpia and Cerro Porteno, leading to injuries among fans and police. The clash began when fans from Cerro Porteno confronted police, resulting in the use of rubber bullets and tear gas.

The match, attended by approximately 40,000 spectators, was called off after 29 minutes of play. Local police reported that at least six officers were seriously injured and transported to the hospital, with injuries including head wounds and possible stab wounds.

David Toral, a hospital spokesperson, confirmed the injuries sustained by the officers. In response to the violence, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) announced that it would investigate the incident, potentially sanctioning those involved and considering a forfeit of the match by Cerro Porteno.

Olimpia's president, Rodrigo Nogu, indicated that the club would seek three points from the match, while Cerro Porteno's president, Bla Reguera, addressed the situation regarding stadium security.
