Maritime Academy Nigeria Hosts Workshop on Education Collaboration

The Maritime Academy Nigeria, located in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, hosted a four-day workshop focused on strengthening collaboration in maritime education across West and Central Africa. The event brought together three leading regional institutions: Maritime Academy Nigeria, the Regional Institute of Marine Science and Technology (ARSTM) from Côte d'Ivoire, and the Regional Maritime University (RMU) from Ghana.

Dr. Paul Adalikwu, the Secretary General of the Maritime Organization for West and Central Africa (MOWCA), delivered a keynote address emphasizing the critical role of maritime education in sustaining the region's economy. He noted that 90% of trade is carried by sea, and the benefits depend on the quality of human capacity development.

Dr. Kevin Okonna, the Acting Rector of Maritime Academy Nigeria, expressed confidence that the collaboration would enhance maritime education and training across the sub-region, providing a solid framework for sustainable partnerships. The workshop marked a significant step towards fostering synergy and advancing maritime capacity in West and Central Africa.
