Actress and film producer Mary Njoku has reignited the gold digger debate by questioning the societal double standards that label women negatively for benefiting from wealthy partners while men in similar situations are celebrated. Njoku, a mother of three, took to social media to highlight how successful men often have friends who enjoy their generosity—eating their food, wearing their gifts—without facing criticism.

She pointed out that these men are framed as loyal companions, whereas women who benefit from wealth are often dismissed with derogatory labels. Njoku argues that the tendency to seek value is a universal human behavior, not exclusive to women or driven by greed.

She emphasizes that the real issue lies in the selective language society uses to describe these relationships, noting that men are viewed as friends or loyalists, while women are reduced to simplistic terms.
