Lagos NLC Demands Minimum Wage Increase to N225,000

On May Day, the Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), represented by Chairperson Funmi Sessi, called for an increase in the minimum wage from N85,000 to N225,000. This demand was made during an event held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, emphasizing the necessity of the wage increase due to the current inflation rate of 15.38% and the high cost of living in Lagos.

Sessi noted that the existing wage, approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is no longer sufficient to meet workers' needs amid economic hardships. She raised concerns about insecurity and poverty, which are major challenges affecting worker welfare, and urged the state government to strengthen security measures and implement policies to improve worker welfare.

Despite the demands, Sessi commended the state government for ongoing infrastructure projects. The event was also attended by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, representing the governor alongside other government officials and labor leaders.
