Media Trust's Aaron Atsahyel Nominated for Thomson Award

Aaron Atsahyel, a journalist with Media Trust, has been shortlisted for the Thomson Foundation Young Journalist of the Year Award for his documentary that focuses on the plight of women and children whose husbands and fathers were allegedly arrested by the military over a decade ago. The documentary highlights a specific community where 42 men were reportedly taken by the military 11 years ago and have not been seen since.

The Thomson Foundation selected Atsahyel among 12 finalists from various countries, including Nigeria, Malaysia, Mexico, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ukraine, out of 217 entries from 56 countries. Another Nigerian finalist, Hauwa Shaffii Nuhu from HumAngle, conducted a seven-month investigation into the rise of Boko Haram.

Catherine Mackie, Thomson’s Learning Manager, remarked on the bravery and tenacity of the young journalists participating in the competition. The winner will be announced at the annual FPA Awards ceremony in London in November.
