Messi Included in Argentina's 2026 World Cup Squad

Lionel Messi has been included in Argentina's 55-man provisional squad for the 2026 World Cup, as confirmed by coach Lionel Scaloni. This squad aims to defend the title won in Qatar.

Among the notable omissions are Paulo Dybala, who has made 40 appearances for Argentina, and Ángel Correa, a former Atlético Madrid forward currently with UANL in Mexico. The squad also features emerging talents such as Franco Mastantuono from Real Madrid CF and Claudio Echeverri from Girona FC.

Scaloni's selection indicates a tactical adjustment, with players like Mateo Pellegrino and Matia Soul from Parma and Roma, respectively, preferred over more experienced options. The provisional squad will be reduced to a final 26-man list by May 30, ahead of the tournament in North America.

Several Premier League players, including Lisandro Martínez from Manchester United and Enzo Fernández from Chelsea FC, are also part of the squad, while Alejandro Garnacho returns after not featuring in September 2024.
