Lionel Messi made a successful return from injury, scoring in Argentina's 3-0 victory over Iceland in a World Cup warm-up match held in Auburn, Alabama, on May 24. Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, had been sidelined due to muscle fatigue but started on the bench.

Argentina took the lead when Valentin Barco scored after a goalmouth scramble. Despite Iceland's Mikael Egil Ellertsson initially threatening with a chance, Argentina maintained control.

Messi entered the match in the final quarter, assisting Lautaro Martinez before scoring his 117th international goal, marking his 199th cap. The match concluded with Messi also assisting Thiago Almada for Argentina's third goal.

Argentina's next challenge will be against Algeria on June 16 as they prepare for the World Cup.
