Court Denies Emergency Halt to Meta Layoffs Amid Lawsuit

A California district court has denied an emergency request from a group of 26 employees seeking to block layoffs at Meta, allowing the company to continue with its scheduled workforce reduction. The employees filed the lawsuit alleging that Meta utilized automated software to target individuals who had taken legal medical leave or family time off.

The presiding judge indicated that he would reconsider the case if the plaintiffs could provide clearer evidence of how the automated systems unfairly assessed their productivity. The court ruled that losing a corporate salary does not constitute an irreversible tragedy warranting an emergency freeze on layoffs.

Meta countered the allegations, asserting that final firing decisions were made manually by managers, not solely based on technology. The affected employees are currently disconnected from internal networks, with terminations expected to be finalized by the end of July.

The legal team for the workers argued that losing medical coverage during health treatments causes severe personal trauma that cannot be compensated later.
