Carrick Responds to Martinez's Critique of Man United's Strategy

Following Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, manager Michael Carrick chose not to comment on Lisandro Martinez's criticism of the club's hierarchy. Martinez questioned the club's summer recruitment strategy, stating that the leadership had not provided adequate support to strengthen the squad.

He specifically criticized director of football Jason Wilcox and called for increased scrutiny of those responsible for football decisions. Despite a reported £155 million spent on first-team reinforcements during the summer transfer window, Martinez felt the club did not do enough to build on last season's achievements.

Carrick stated he needed to gather more information before addressing Martinez's comments and suggested that the defender's remarks might have been influenced by the emotional aftermath of the match. He urged his players to move on and focus on their next domestic fixture against Leeds United on October 18, emphasizing his confidence in their commitment to improve results.
