Nigerian Armed Forces Start Receiving Salary Increases

Personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces have begun receiving their increased salaries as approved by President Bola Tinubu. This announcement was made by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who confirmed the new salary structure aims to enhance troop morale amid ongoing operations against insecurity.
The salary adjustments, which took effect on September 1, were approved in August and are expected to benefit around 250,000 military personnel. The increases vary by rank: officers above the rank of colonel will receive a 30% increase, personnel from colonel to warrant officer will see a 50% increase, while those from private to staff sergeant will receive an 80% increase.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, indicated that this adjustment would significantly raise the Federal Government’s annual salary expenditure for military personnel from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion.
