Obi-Kwankwaso Face Northern Resistance Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ahead of the 2027 elections, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are encountering serious resistance from northern political stakeholders. Reports indicate that major northern figures have not yet embraced the Nigeria Democratic Congress, warning against portraying Obi's candidacy as anti-northern interest.

This political tension is exacerbated by incidents such as the burning of Obi-Kwankwaso campaign posters in Kano State. Additionally, a recent court ruling upheld that the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in the Federal Capital Territory lacks the legal authority to stop vehicles or impose fines.

However, the Lagos State government clarified that this judgment does not automatically apply to its own transport laws, which empower it to conduct vehicle inspections. This ruling has sparked debates about the legal basis for roadside vehicle inspections across various states, including Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and Rivers.
